DHL Express Malaysia, Sidec – Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation and Vlan Asia have jointly organized a webinar on 3rd June to learn about the future for B2B e-commerce and how to adapt to new business norms during the Covid-19 pandemic. The speakers were Julian Neo, Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia, Lance Cheang, Managing Director aka Chief Geek of VLAN Asia, and Kai Ping Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec)
Adrian Seet: Hello, Good Morning to all. I’m Adrian and I’ll be your moderator in today’s session. Julian, are businesses’ norms are changing to accommodate B2B e-Commerce. DHL synonymous with delivery and now e-Commerce, so how does DHL feature in this arena? As DHL is essentially a logistics company and now DHL is focusing on e-Commerce.
Julian Neo: Thank you for the question Adrian. Fundamentally to me, B2B and B2C are about the same thing which is selling goods to people and the expectations of these two customer groups are increasingly overlapping. This is because B2B businesses are transforming its website into an Amazon like experience to make purchasing simpler. At DHL, we do it on a couple of pillars one of the main pillar that we continue to drive this is called Go Trade which is launched late last year, October 2020. The objective is to help over 900,000 registered small and medium-sized companies in Malaysia with cross-border trade. In Malaysia, only 30% of them are involved in cross-border trade. Thus, with this initiative, SMEs can tap on the potential of globalization in developing and emerging countries where we aim to promote sustainable growth by helping SMEs to go beyond our borders and cross. Go Trade is made in Malaysia and loved by the world.
Julian Neo: Besides, we have also helped local SMEs focus on e-Commerce on the platform as we operate in over 220 countries and territories. Any market that SMEs want to venture into, we have these out outreach programs and webinars that we have done since 2017 has largely targeted B2B e-Commerce and SMEs who want to partake in cross-border trade. Therefore, we work closely with MATRADE and government. Since its inception, we have engaged close to 6,000 SMEs to assist them in their e-Commerce and export activities as well as establishing a whole ecosystem from enablers like payment gateway, business financing, packaging solution digital agencies, photography and other requirements that is required digitally for cross-border trading. In onboarding SMEs since 2018, we have seen 450 SMEs that ventures into e-Commerce platforms like Shopify that has been very successful. I think one of the examples quoted earlier by Kai Ping Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) is if you don’t have an online channel today, I think you’ll be even suffering more during this pandemic.
Adrian Seet: Yes, you are correct. Thanks Julian. Moving on to Lance Cheang, Managing Director aka Chief Geek of VLAN Asia, based on Julian Neo, Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia’s response, where he talked about onboarding and Go Trade, how does VLAN Asia solutions fit into all this?
Lance Cheang: Thanks Adrian. While we currently don’t have any direct integrations with any logistic systems at this point in time but that will change in the near future with our partnership with DHL Express Malaysia. Nowadays, it is possible to actually integrate ordering systems to warehouse management systems to manage logistics and goods and services up. So the systems that we carry primarily have open APIs that allow connectivity between platforms and systems to do integrations. For example, when a purchase an order to a specific vendor placed into VLAN Asia’s “Xero Accounting Software”, it can immediately initiate a pickup request to another open API system. Likewise an invoice or delivery note can trigger a warehouse system to pick and pack the orders so that the order item can be picked up and delivered to the customer whether it’s B2B or B2C. Since all of our systems are on public cloud and have open API integrations, we can interconnect with almost anybody that is willing to accept us. Thank you.
